- MaceRobert5205 Feb 11, 2017 at 01:56pmThanks for this, Mike. I mostly create new 2012R2 VMs from a sysprepped export. But this will work well for the occasional physical installs.
- Pure Capsaicindbeato Feb 11, 2017 at 03:34pmAwesome write up!!! Thank you for sharing this as some customers have had this trouble and it will help a lot.
- Pimientoemmanuelee Apr 16, 2017 at 03:26pmThanks a lot!!! actually my intention was to install KB2999226 - x64 which i could not but on installing KB2919355 and following your steps after that i now tried it and it worked THANK YOU ONCE AGAIN!!!
- Pimientojimrobinson6 Aug 9, 2017 at 09:03pmMike,We've just done a completely new installation of Windows Server 2012 R2 (version 6.3 build 9600). I just ran Windows Update for the first time and it downloaded a slew of initial updates, then rebooted. I had Windows Update check for updates again and it installed 2 additional updates without a reboot, listed below:Security Update for Windows Server 2012 R2 (KB2961908) without KB2919355
Security Update for Windows Server 2012 R2 (KB2920189)I had Windows Update check once more, and now it's giving me another 2 updates, one of which is the critical one you describe:Security Update for Windows Server 2012 R2 (KB3172729)
Windows Server 2012 R2 Update (KB2919355)A piece of software we need to use recommended having KB2919442 and KB2919355 before installing it.
However, I checked all the updates which were installed and KB2919442 is not listed. From what I've read KB2919442 should be installed before KB2919355. Should I attempt to install it first using your method described above, or just go ahead and let Windows Update install those two updates? - JalapenoHugo9332 Sep 14, 2017 at 06:10pmMike,Great Post! Thank you very much for the help!

- Thai Peppermelloyellow Feb 13, 2018 at 07:20pmThanks for this, seriously. I don't know why it always has to be a constant struggle with Microsoft and updating. Seriously, I feel like a disproportionate part of my job involves untangling their web of always changing ways/methods/workarounds to update their OSes.
